As part of my 180MC module, our groups are expected to give a presentation about a topic which we have been discussing within the last week. These presentations make up to 25% of our over all grade for this module. Our topic was Celebrities and the power they have in the political world (for example any charity work or campaigns against or for a political policy).
Our group decided to use Prezi to present our presentation, as we felt it would give it a high professional finish. The celebrity we chose to investigate was Miley Cyrus, as her appearance within the media and how the media talk about her was intriguing. But also the political activism she has taken part in allowed us to show a different side to her, that might not be show in the mass media.
The feed back we got from the presentation was mostly positives, but there was concerns that the video we chose to use was a little long. We had discussed some theories and ideas within the presentation but it we could of gone further into theses theories and expanded upon some of the ideas we expressed in the presentation. Every one in the group took part in speaking during the presentation, however there was some repetition with some of the things we were saying.
The over all presentation obtained 60% as the mark.
As part of our manifesto, we went to Birmingham to investigate what facilities and polices they had for recycling. The Birmingham Bullring is the main shopping center within Birmingham, that being so we decided that it would be prime place to ask different businesses their policies on recycling.
We broke off into three individual teams of two, in order to cover more ground and ask a more divers number of shops. We were able to gain some information from individual shops and a representative of the Bullring its self.
Model’s Own was one of the stalls we looked at in order to gain information about what their company does to recycle. We were informed that all of the bottle were recyclable, with clear labeling on the products. The containers for many of the makeup products were in fact made from recycled materials and were also recyclable.
As part of our 180 mc module we have been asked to complete a series of tasks. One of these tasks is to create a manifesto, which is a combination of three different modes/ media of communication. For example photography, video, audio, writing or web design.
Our groups manifesto has been desired to look at recycling. Although it can be seen as a major environmental concern, we felt that it was specific enough to gather research and information about. This has gain a lot of media attention over the past decade, due to the impact of global warming (i.e extreme weather conditions) people all over the globe have become increasingly agitated at the prospect of these extreme instance happening to them.
However although there are lots of information encouraging the general public to think about how much electricity they are using and what they are throwing away. There doesn’t seem to be as much information being provided for companies and businesses, these are usually the places throwing away the most rubbish and non risible material. We hope to look into making information more clearer for business to help them reduce there impact upon the planet.
